The World
01 / Origin
From Shaolin to Japan
Kempo traces its roots to the ancient martial traditions associated with Shaolin in China. Over centuries, these traditions spread to Okinawa and Japan, where they evolved within a rich culture of martial arts, discipline, and warrior traditions.
02 / Essence
Martial Art, Philosophy & Sport
Kempo is more than a fighting system. It is a unique combination of martial techniques, discipline, philosophy, education, and personal development — cultivating strength, confidence, respect, honor, self-control, and fair play.
03 / Global Development
From Asia to the World
Over time, Kempo evolved through various schools and forms. In 2002, the International Kempo Federation (IKF) was founded in Budapest to unite Kempo organizations under common sporting standards. Today, Kempo stands as a global combat sport, with the IKF uniting more than 108 countries across five continents.
